Weekly private and group lessons run through the school terms, with teachers keeping track of what each student should practise next.
built for cambodia's music future
Supersound is a music school in Phnom Penh. Students come in for a weekly lesson. Many of them end up staying for band rehearsals, exam weeks and student concerts too.
the school today
Most students start with one instrument and one teacher. Piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, saxophone, drums or voice, once a week, at a time that fits the family.
The Music Crew at the school desk handles the rest: matching students with teachers, finding a slot at BKK1 or Toul Kork, sorting out trials, and answering parents' questions about practice and progress.
The desk is on Telegram at @supersoundbkk for BKK1 and @supersoundtk for Toul Kork. To call, BKK1 is +855 85 317 318 and Toul Kork is +855 85 318 319.
Group classes sit alongside the private lessons. Junior and adult piano groups, guitar groups, Theory Lab, Community Choir and Band Club give students a reason to play with other people, which is usually when the practising starts to make sense.
a normal school year
Students who want a clear target prepare for RSL graded exams, from choosing the right grade to recording during exam week.
Student concerts, showcases and competitions give students a date to work towards and a room full of people to play for.
Masterclasses, clinics and creative sessions with visiting artists add a different voice to the weekly routine.
Instruments, accessories and books are available from the school shop, so students can get the right gear without guessing.
The Supersound Music Scholarship supports young Khmer musicians with lessons, materials, exams and performance opportunities.
real instruments, real progress
Students learn on proper instruments in rooms set up for music. Teachers use RSL material, method books and songs picked around the student's age, level and taste, and they check in with parents when something is working or stuck.
Performance is part of the plan from early on. A first mini-concert is often the moment a student realises why the scales mattered.
For families buying an acoustic piano, The Piano Shop Cambodia can help with options and servicing.
